PARTECIPANTS

EDITION 2022 / 2024

The fourth edition of CirkAround, which took place between 2022 and 2024, was full of newss:

  • It was the first edition to have a three-year horizon and no longer an annual one.
  • For the first time, the project opened not only to contemporary circus artists/organisers, but also to physical and figure theatre.
  • As never before in the history of CirkAround, this edition saw the participation of no less than 12 foreign partners from 7 different countries. The international partners provided the project with an incredible variety of experiences abroad, contacts with professionals and suggestions from the experts supporting the participants.
CLOWN
SILVIA BORELLO
Turin, 1990

She studied dance, theatre and singing. Graduated in 2013 from Bernstein School of Musical Theater (Bologna), in 2016, after a short seminar with Willy the Clown (teacher and director with whom she still collaborates), she discovered clowning and since then has been trying to delve into every aspect of it by travelling, studying and working: Granada, Paris, Barcelona, Montreal, Turin, Berlin, Yi- Bin, Castelo de Vide. Since 2018 she has been part of the company ‘The Clown Angels’, with which he debuted in 2021 with the show ‘BANG BANG!’.

ARIANNA GARULLI
Bologna, 1996

She studied theatre and contemporary dance, then trained at the ‘Alessandra Galante Garrone’ School of Theatre in Bologna (2018-2020). She graduated in International Marketing and approached the world of circus, specialising in aerial acrobatics (silks, trapeze and hoop), with national and international artists. She carries out personal research on the expressive use of the aerial tool, is a teacher of the same discipline and collaborates with the theatre company LegÀmi / Circo Sotto Sopra (APS Artelego, Bologna).

JUGGLER
HUMBERTO JIMENEZ RIOS
Pennabilli (RN), 1990

Born in Mexico in 1990, Humberto is a multidisciplinary circus arts artist. After self-taught beginnings, since 2011 he has been studying at the school of circus arts in Puebla (Mexico), specialising in tightrope walking, juggling, hat manipulation and clowning. In 2018, he joined the Phillip Radice Physical Theatre Atelier, starting a research that led him to explore the expressive potential of movement and dance. His show ‘El Aletreo’ has toured Italian and international festivals.

VALENTINA LISI
Pisa, 1995

A graduate in Scenography from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, she specialised in paper theatre, pop-up and animated silhouettes and took part in workshops in various disciplines (dance theatre, social theatre, figure theatre, shadow theatre, sculpture, historical reconstructions, paper puppets). Her figure theatre show ‘Necessary Relations’, on family dynamics, sees her collaborating with director and trainer Nadia Milani. She runs figure theatre workshops for children and young people.

CLOWN
LUCA MACCA
Reggio Emilia, 1999

With a master's degree in Entertainment Entrepreneurship from the University of Bologna, Luca is a circus organiser and artist. He trained in circus disciplines by participating in numerous workshops in clown, physical theatre and mime, juggling and object manipulation, balance ball, acrobatics and dance theatre. Together with Simone Vaccari, he founded the Compagnia del Buco and produces circus shows, for which he also takes care of distribution and organisation. He conducts clowning and circomotricity workshops in schools and in difficult social contexts.

ANDREA PANIGATTI
Milan, 1987

Graduated from the Civica Scuola di teatro Paolo Grassi, in 2010 he founded the company Teatro dei Gordi and since 2012 has been running theatre workshops for different age groups. He participates as an actor in productions of Teatro Franco Parenti, Teatro del Buratto, Teatro nazionale di Genova, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Rimini Protokoll, among others. He takes part in numerous TV commercials, short films, radio programmes and web series. In 2019 he receives, with the company, the Hystrio Iceberg Award and in 2020 the ANCT National Critic's Award. Since 2018 he has been involved in theatre organisation and since 2022 he has been distributing the Gordi's shows.

MUSICIAN
FRANCESCO SALODINI
Brescia, 1992

Francesco studied classical and jazz trombone at the Conservatories of Brescia, Padua and Verona. Since 2016 he has been a teacher and artistic collaborator of several city bands. As a trombonist he works with several bands and is bandleader of the Rusty Brass Band. This brass band focuses on funk and rock rhythms, mixing this genre with classical, Balkan and exotic sounds, with the aim of fusing the most diverse brass band cultures in the world.
