THIRD EDITION
2021

The third edition of CirkAround took place in 2021. Circuito CLAPS, as project leader, was joined by increasingly important collaborations. The 4 Italian partners of the previous one are reconfirmed (Fondazione Teatro Comunale Città di Vicenza, Industria Scenica, compagnia Artemakìa and Tutti Matti per Colorno), while at the international level the project was implemented thanks to the collaboration with Institut Ramon Llull and Companyia de Comediants La Baldufa (Catalonia), Teatr Brama (Poland), Daki Ling/The Garden of the Muses, La Villette, CircoStrada, Cratère Surfaces (France), MOVE TO CIRCUS ACADEMY (Israel) and CINARS (Canada), André Casaca (Brazil): 10 partners from 6 countries (half of them non-European).

CirkAround 2021 encompassed the four project steps of the previous editions, but included more international trips for participants than in previous years. Another new feature was the presence of the “satellites”, Italian artists living abroad who stayed available to share their professional experiences with the selected CirkAround artists.

-CirkAround MASTERCLASS included three sessions (Italian, European and non-European masterclasses). Given the continuing of pandemic restrictions, for the first time the project kicked off with the European masterclass, mixing in-person and online hours. Participants met professionals from France and Spain during Tendenza Clown 2021, while for the non-European masterclass, they connected with lecturers from Israel and Canada, then met in-presence for a workshop with clown André Casaca (Brazil) in March 2022. The Italian masterclass, on the other hand, took place in Vicenza, in November 2021.

-CirkAround EXPERIENCE took place in several European countries. Daki Ling hosted us in Marseille during the Tendance Clown festival (May 2022), in the presence of the aerialist Rocco Manfredi of the Dispensa Barzotti company; Cratère Surfaces welcomed CirkAround participants to the OLE Lab in Alès and gave them tools to present their artistic work to an audience of international operators (July 2022); the Catalans from the company La Baldufa included our young artists in a workshop during the Esbaiola't festival in Esterri d'Aneu (July 2022); while Teatr Brama from Goleniow invited us to Poland, to hold a circus workshop with young people from the Monar community and to attend performances at the Bramat festival (early September 2022). As a final international stop, all CirkAround participants travelled to Tarrega together with the staff of Circuito CLAPS, for the prestigious Fira, which provided us with unrepeatable performances and networking moments. This was accompanied by a guided tour of the circus facilities and artistic residencies in and around Barcelona, organised by the Institut Ramon Llull (mid September 2022).

-CirkAround ACTION, which replaced the “Immersive” stage of previous editions, saw a succession of internships carried out by the young people at the project partners' headquarters. On their own or in small groups of two, CirkAround participants were included in the festival teams and worked on organisation, promotion, technique, welcoming audiences and companies... learning how the promotion of a major event works. SaltinPiazza (Viarigi, AT), Tendenza Clown (Milan), Tutti matti per Colorno (Colorno, PR), Inneschi (Vimodrone, MI) and the season of the Teatro Comunale di Vicenza hosted the various interns of CirkAround from time to time.
-CirkAround FEEDBACK. During Tendenza Clown 2022 the youngsters dedicated time to the creation of a short site-specific performance to narrate their journey displayed to an audience of operators and institutions.

Two organisers and 6 artists were selected for CirkAround 2021: Ludovica Corponi and Sofia Savalle, Marino Dimita, Michela Fiorani, Riccardo Forneris, Lucia Rizzo, Silvia Valenti, Serena Vergari.
